The TREPA research project aims to fill knowledge gaps regarding the intersectionality of risks for zoonotic diseases of pandemic potential and the wildlife use and trade with a One Health approach.

Chris Justice (Int. GeoCenter) attended the Space Week Nordeste Conference in Fortaleza, Brazil (Aug 14-21, 2023). This event attracted early career scientists and renowned researchers from Brazil along with international researchers and NASA Space and Earth scientists. At the opening of the meeting, Garik Gutman (NASA HQ, LCLUC Program Manager) gave a keynote presentation on advances in land-cover and land-use change research with the focus on South America, particularly on northeast Brazil.

The International GEO-Innovation Center concluded the second International Quantitative Remote Sensing Summer School, which ran from June 28 to July 7, 2023.

The summer school was organized in cooperation with our partners at the School of Remote Sensing and Information Engineering of Wuhan University, the Quantitative Remote Sensing Research Center of Wuhan University, and the Department of Geography at the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Chris Justice and Dr. Krishna Vadrevu were involved as conveners in the International Meeting on Air Pollution in Asia – Inventories, Monitoring and Mitigation in Hanoi, Vietnam from Feb 1st - 3rd, 2023.

NASA Harvest in collaboration with UMD Geographical Sciences conducts several training programs for agricultural monitoring. 

Dr. Peter Potapov from the GLAD Team hosted five scientists from the National Remote Sensing Department (NRSD) of the Ministry and Natural Resources and Environment, Hanoi and the Forest Inventory Planning Institute (FIPI) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hanoi. The visitors worked with the GLAD System to develop current remote sensing-based maps of forest cover, land cover and land use in the context of National Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) activities.

The International GEO-Innovation Center held its inaugural event, the first International Quantitative Remote Sensing Summer School from July 5 – 13th 2022, in collaboration with Wuhan University and the University of Hong Kong. The summer school held talks in English and Chinese by speakers from multiple international institutions and was very well-received with more than 5000 total registrations.  – predominantly students and young researchers.
